Reflection Week 1

When a book is a best seller I think that should be taken as a complement. Authors write for many different reasons, but one of those reasons is to have people read and enjoy their books. If a book makes the best seller list, that means people are reading the book. Not only are they reading them, but people have to be enjoying the books. Some book critics say that a best seller is not truly a “great” book. That does not mean the same thing to every reader. The way people define books is different. Our society has a way of influencing our opinions on everything. Literature does not escape this influence. A best seller strictly means that it sold the most books that week. When people enjoy a book, they typically recommend that book to others; therefore making the book popular. A best-selling book might be great to some people because they have different expectations. Other people might not agree with that statement of greatness. There is no need to argue with someone because of this difference. Readers have different levels of education, experiences, likes, and dislikes. These differing subjects lead to the criticizing and enjoyment of each book.

Post 1: Why I Read

I don't read very often, but when I do, it's normally for a school assignment. Most books for school assignments are forced down our throats making most of the books I read not very enjoyable. The few times I have read for my own good, it is normally a book that I cannot put down. When I read a book for fun, it is normally recommended by a friend who has the same interests as me. Reading a bad book is subjective. But either way I find it hard to turn the pages of boring book. One bad book ruins it for all the other books. When I do find a good one, it makes me love reading and feel like I'm missing out. But I don't really have time to read a bunch of books for fun and the ones I have to read for English classes. So the cycle continues, I find an awesome book to read for fun and thoroughly enjoy it then I read a difficult to understand English book and never want to read again. I get discouraged by one frustrating book. I always forget that not all books are as bad as the books I'm forced to read. So most the time, I read because I have to. But every so often I read because I have a sliver of hope to find what I consider a good book.
